BLab Goes Global

INTERNATIONAL B Lab Glasglow (United Kingdom)

B Lab Glasgow has a focus on the development of learning design principles across different academic disciplines, or worlds. Through the use of a systems approach to learning design B Lab Glasgow aims to explore the use of innovative approaches to developing student learning in higher education through the use of multiple channels for communication and learning. Initial projects include the development and use of academic comics as a means of delivering learning across three disciplines – business and management, psychology, and medicine – through teaching in decision-making, forensic psychology, and patient safety. B Lab Glasgow is led by Professor Denis Fischbacher-Smith who is Professor of Risk and Resilience at the University of Glasgow and involves colleagues from other Universities in the UK and Europe with an interest in transformative learning design.

I am delighted and honored to join the B Lab family of scholars. The work of the network is both exemplary and transformative, and I am looking forward to working with colleagues across the B-Lab community around issues relating to learning design and the enhancement of the student learning experience. B Lab Glasgow will bring together colleagues from other universities in the UK and Europe with an interest in learning design in higher education and will explore the ways in which we can incorporate innovative technologies and approaches into the enhancement of the student learning experience, as well as for those practitioners who are seeking to enhance their professional development. The opportunity to provide an evidence-based approach to transformational change within learning design has implications for education at all levels. The potential for collaboration within the wider B Lab family offers considerable scope to transform the learning process and to ensure that the education-related research carried out within universities is communicated to as wide an audience as possible to support the case for change.
